Usage & credits
How character usage is metered, and how bought credits work.
How usage is metered
Translation is billed by characters — the letters and digits in the text you translate. Whitespace and most punctuation don't count, and Lingolense skips things it won't translate anyway (single glyphs, pure numbers, icon characters), so you're only charged for real translated content.
Your monthly allowance depends on your plan:
| Plan | Monthly allowance |
|---|---|
| Free | 500 characters total (lifetime, not monthly) |
| Starter | 50,000 / month |
| Professional | 300,000 / month |
| Team | 1,500,000 / month |
| Lifetime | 300,000 / month, forever |
Paid plans reset on your monthly billing date. The Free allowance is a one-time lifetime cap, not a monthly reset.
Watching your usage
- In the plugin — the header shows Plan · used / limit.
- In the portal — the dashboard shows usage for the current period and your remaining credits.
Usage is tracked server-side, so it's consistent across every device your key is activated on.
Credits (never expire)
Need more than your plan's monthly allowance? Buy credits. Credits:
- Never expire — they carry over month to month.
- Stay usable on any tier — including Free, and even if you later cancel.
- Are drawn on after your monthly allowance is used up.
So nothing you pay for is ever lost to a reset date.
Running out
When you hit your limit, translation pauses and the plugin points you to top up credits or upgrade. Nothing you've already translated is affected — you just can't start new translations until you have allowance or credits available.
